Calgary Drywall Doctor is a drywall contractor serving Huntington Hills in NW Calgary. Huntington Hills runs along the east side of Nose Hill Park, between 14 Street and Centre Street, and it is one of the largest communities in the quadrant. We have patched, boarded and finished homes here for more than 20 years.
This is a practical, family neighbourhood with a lot of original owners and a lot of first-time buyers. The drywall work is practical too: ceilings that need to come into this century, basements that need to earn rent, and walls that have taken 50 years of use.
Nose Hill Park is right across 14 Street, and the shopping along Centre Street means most errands are a short drive. The houses are now 45 to 55 years old, and that is where our work comes from.
What We Tend to Find in Huntington Hills Homes
Huntington Hills was built mostly in the late 1960s and 1970s. The typical house is a bungalow or bi-level, with split-levels and some two-storeys on the later streets, plus a number of townhouse complexes. Lots are modest and the houses are solid.
Stipple ceilings are nearly universal in the original homes. Any texture applied before about 1990 should be lab-tested for asbestos before it is sanded or scraped. When the test is clean, we remove the texture and finish the ceiling flat. When it is not, a licensed abatement contractor removes it and we finish the ceiling afterward.
Basement suites are a big part of the housing picture here. Bi-levels in particular have tall basement windows and a separate side entrance, which makes them good candidates for a legal secondary suite. The City of Calgary requires fire separation, interconnected smoke alarms and proper egress. We handle the drywall portion: 5/8" Type X fire-rated board where it is required, mould-resistant board on foundation walls, and a Level 4 finish. We check moisture before any board goes up.
Homes from the later 1970s may fall into the Poly-B window and need repipe patching. We also see a lot of older water damage around bathroom fans, under upstairs tubs, and on ceilings below hail-damaged roofs. Decades of small repairs and picture hooks mean many walls are better skim coated than patched one more time.
The usual winter cracks show up too. Nail pops and corner bead cracks after a dry Chinook winter are routine in this era of house and are a quick fix for us.
Huntington Hills also has a number of 1970s two-storeys and four-level splits with a family room a half-flight down from the kitchen. Those half-landing walls and stair ceilings see a lot of traffic, and the corner bead at the landing is chipped in more houses than not. It is a quick fix we can do on the same visit as other repairs.
The townhouse complexes have shared walls that must stay fire-rated. When a unit is renovated, that wall keeps its 5/8" Type X board and sealed joints. We see plenty where someone cut into it for a cable run or a wall-mounted TV and never patched it properly.

How a Huntington Hills Drywall Job Goes
Call or email and we will book a visit. On a suite we walk the basement with you, check moisture on the foundation, and confirm where the fire-rated board goes. On a ceiling we ask about test results before we quote removal. On a repair we look at the damage and check for moisture if a leak is involved. You get a written, itemized scope before anything starts.
Most jobs are booked within two to three days of approval. We cover floors, hang plastic or zip walls to keep dust contained, and sand with a HEPA vacuum. Ceiling work and patches take two or three visits so each coat of mud can dry. Suites are scheduled around framing and electrical inspections.
We check every wall and ceiling under raking light, match any texture, clean up, and walk you through the work before we leave.
On a suite ceiling we hang 5/8" Type X board, tape with paper, set the first coat with setting compound, and finish with two coats of all-purpose mud. Joints and penetrations are sealed so the fire separation stays continuous, then the whole suite gets a Level 4 finish.

More than 20 years in Calgary, more than 500 completed projects, licensed, WCB-covered and insured, and a written workmanship warranty on every job. We quote in writing and we keep to the schedule.
We also tell you when a job does not need us yet. A wet basement wall needs the water fixed first. A fresh ceiling stain needs the roof or the plumbing fixed first. We will come back when the house is ready.
