Calgary Drywall Doctor is a drywall contractor serving NE Calgary, AB. The northeast is the quadrant where we do the most basement suites, the most storm-damage repair and a steady run of repipe patching. If you need a drywall contractor in NE Calgary for a suite, a repair, a ceiling or a full basement, call 587-417-5252.
We bring 20+ years of drywall experience and have served Calgary since 2004, with 500+ projects completed. We are licensed, WCB-covered and insured. Every job starts with a free, written, itemized quote, and we back our work with a written workmanship warranty. Most jobs are booked within 2 to 3 days of approval.
NE Calgary splits roughly into two groups of housing. Whitehorn, Marlborough, Temple and Falconridge are mostly 1970s and 1980s homes: bungalows, bi-levels and two-storeys with stipple ceilings and, often, Poly-B plumbing. Martindale bridges the 1980s and 1990s. Saddle Ridge, Skyview Ranch and Coventry Hills are 2000s and newer builder communities with builder-grade finishes and basements waiting to be developed. We work in both and know the difference.
Many NE homeowners are landlords, first-time buyers or families sharing a home across generations. That means suites, basements that double as living space and repairs that need to be done cleanly while people are living in the house. We work around all of it.

What NE Calgary Homes Need From a Drywall Crew
Here is what we tend to find in the northeast, by era and by issue.
1970s and 1980s: Whitehorn, Marlborough, Temple, Falconridge
These homes often have stipple or popcorn ceilings. Any texture applied before about 1990 may contain asbestos and should be lab-tested before it is disturbed. If positive, a licensed abatement contractor removes it before we re-finish. Homes built from roughly 1978 to 1995 may have Poly-B plumbing, and repipes are common as insurers push for replacement. We patch, tape and texture the access holes the plumber leaves. Basements in these homes were often developed decades ago by the owner, and redoing them to current standards is a regular job.
2000s and newer: Saddle Ridge, Skyview Ranch, Coventry Hills, Martindale's newer streets
Builder-grade Level 3 and Level 4 finishes, undeveloped basements and the usual settling issues: nail pops, cracks at window corners and winter truss uplift cracks at the ceiling edge. LED pot lights make builder finishes flash, and a Level 5 skim on the main walls fixes it.
Basement suites
The northeast has more secondary suites than any other quadrant, legal and otherwise. A legal suite needs fire separation with Type X board, a sound-rated ceiling assembly, sealed penetrations, interconnected smoke alarms and proper egress. We handle the drywall, fire-separation and sound-rated assembly portion and build it to pass City of Calgary inspection. Bringing an older, unpermitted suite up to code often means opening the ceiling, and we plan that with you.
Hail and storm damage
NE Calgary has taken some of the worst hail in the city in recent years. Roof and siding damage leads to ceiling stains, wet insulation and sagging board. We meter the stained drywall first. Dry board with a stain can be sealed and re-finished. Wet or soft board is cut out and replaced, then textured to match.
Across every era, Chinook freeze-thaw and very dry winter air drive nail pops and corner cracks. We fix them so they stay fixed.
Older basement developments
A lot of 1970s and 1980s NE basements were finished by the owner decades ago. Low ceilings, panelling glued to the board, no vapour barrier and bedrooms without proper egress are common. Bringing one up to today's rules usually means stripping it to the studs, checking moisture, re-insulating and re-boarding. We quote that honestly rather than patching over a basement that will not pass.
Our Process in NE Calgary
Every NE Calgary job runs the same way.
- Call or email. Describe the job and send photos. For a suite, tell us whether it is a new build or an older suite being brought up to code.
- Site visit and written quote. We measure, check framing, meter any concrete or stained drywall and note any texture that should be tested. You get a free, written, itemized quote.
- Booking. Most jobs are booked within 2 to 3 days of approval.
- Dust control. Plastic, zip walls, covered vents and HEPA vacuums. This matters when a family is living upstairs while we work on the suite below.
- Board, tape and mud. The right board for each surface: Type X on separations, mould-resistant on basement exterior walls, moisture-resistant in bathrooms. Taped and mudded in coats with drying time between.
- Sand and inspect. Every surface is checked under a raking light at a low angle before we call it done.
- Cleanup and walkthrough. We clean, haul our waste and walk the job with you. The written workmanship warranty covers the work.
For suites, we can coordinate with the inspector's schedule so the fire-rated assemblies are visible for inspection before they are finished and painted.
On an occupied suite job we sequence the work so the tenant or family upstairs keeps their kitchen and bathroom. Noise is kept to daytime hours and the dust stays behind the zip wall.

Why NE Calgary Homeowners Choose Calgary Drywall Doctor
Here is what the northeast gets from us.
Suite experience. We know what a City of Calgary inspector looks for on a secondary suite: Type X board, sealed penetrations, sound-rated assemblies. We build to that the first time.
Storm repair done right. We meter stained drywall before deciding what to cut. Replacing dry board wastes your money. Painting over wet board wastes it twice.
We test before we scrape. Pre-1990 ceiling textures get lab-tested. We do not do abatement ourselves, and we say so.
Raking-light inspection. Every finished surface is checked under a low-angle light before we leave.
Written scope and dust control. A free, itemized quote before work starts, and plastic, zip walls and HEPA vacuums on every job.
Licensed, WCB-covered and insured. Everyone on site is covered, and we can show proof.
Call 587-417-5252 or email info@calgarydrywalldoctor.com for a free written quote on your NE Calgary drywall job.
We also price repairs fairly for the northeast. A small patch is a small job and we quote it that way. A full suite is a big job and we give it the planning it needs. Either way the quote is written and itemized before we start.
