Calgary Drywall Doctor is a drywall contractor serving Evergreen in SW Calgary. Evergreen backs onto the west end of Fish Creek Park, and most of its homes were built from the late 1990s through the 2000s, with the estate section filling in later. These are larger two-storeys with bonus rooms, 9-foot main floors and big basements, and that shapes the work we do here. Basement developments are the number one call. Home theatres and bonus-room soundproofing are close behind. And a growing number of owners want a Level 5 finish on main-floor walls before repainting in darker colours. Homes here range from the first phases near the park to the newer estate lots on the west side, and the drywall needs are similar across all of them. We have handled all of it in Evergreen, with a written scope up front and HEPA dust control from the first cut.
What We Tend to Find in Evergreen Homes
Evergreen homes are past the early settling stage and into the renovation stage. These are the drywall items that come up most.
- Undeveloped basements. Many homes were sold with the lower level roughed in but unfinished. Big footprints, tall ceilings and a bathroom rough-in make them ideal for development. We moisture-check the slab and foundation walls before any board goes up.
- Home theatres and media rooms. Evergreen basements are often set up as theatres. The drywall side is resilient channel, double 5/8" board with damping compound, and acoustic sealant so the sound stays downstairs.
- Bonus rooms over the garage. Noise travels down into the garage and up from it. A second layer of board on the floor side and the shared walls helps, and the garage ceiling needs fire-rated board regardless.
- Truss uplift cracks. Long trusses over wide main floors lift in winter and the ceiling-to-wall joint cracks. We float the joint so it can move without showing.
- Builder finishes under new lighting. Level 4 walls and Level 3 textured ceilings flash under LED pot lights. A skim coat fixes it.
- Nail pops and corner cracks. Fewer than in brand-new homes, but Chinook humidity swings keep producing them.
A few more things we see in Evergreen. Homes backing onto the park and the escarpment often have walkout basements with full-height exterior walls on one side; those walls get a moisture check in the corners before board goes up. Three-car garages are common and many are being finished as workshops or gyms, which means boarding the walls and ceiling with 5/8" Type X on everything shared with the house. The open-to-below great rooms in the larger homes have walls two storeys tall that need staging to patch or skim properly. And hail is a regular visitor in the south-west, so ceiling stains after a roof claim are a common repair call.

How an Evergreen Drywall Job Goes
Here is the process for a basement with a theatre, which is a common Evergreen project.
- Site visit and moisture check. We measure the space, look at the framing and rough-ins, and check the slab and foundation walls with a meter.
- Written, itemized quote. Board types by room, the soundproofing assembly for the theatre, fire-rated locations, finish level and schedule.
- Boarding. Resilient channel and the first layer in the theatre, standard board elsewhere, Type X where required. Usually one to two days.
- Second layer and sealant. Damping compound between layers in the theatre, acoustic sealant at every edge and penetration.
- Taping and finishing. Three coats with drying time, sanded under HEPA extraction, checked under raking light.
- Walkthrough. We clean up, go through the work with you, and leave it covered by a written workmanship warranty.
Repairs and finish upgrades follow the same pattern: photos or a visit, a written quote, protection, the work, a raking-light check and a walkthrough.
Why Evergreen Homeowners Call Calgary Drywall Doctor
We have been a Calgary drywall contractor since 2004 with 500+ projects completed, including plenty of basement developments and theatre builds in the south and southwest. We are licensed, WCB-covered and insured. Every job starts with a free, written, itemized quote and a moisture check, and ends with a raking-light inspection and a walkthrough. Dust is contained with plastic, zip walls and HEPA vacuums. The work is backed by a written workmanship warranty. For an Evergreen basement, theatre or finish upgrade, call 587-417-5252.
We also keep the project predictable. The quote tells you which days are boarding, which are taping and when the sanders come out. Crews keep set hours and clean up every afternoon so the main floor stays livable. If a painter, electrician or flooring crew is following us, we coordinate the schedule and hand over a surface that is ready on the day we said it would be.
