Calgary Drywall Doctor is a drywall contractor serving Bridlewood in SW Calgary. Bridlewood was built mostly from the late 1990s through the 2000s, west of Shawnessy and south of Evergreen, not far from the west end of Fish Creek Park. The homes are a practical mix of starter two-storeys, bi-levels and move-up houses, and most of them are now 15 to 25 years old. That is the age where basements get finished, where the first round of ceiling cracks and nail pops has shown up, and where a leaking dishwasher or hail-damaged roof has left a stain somewhere. We handle all of that in Bridlewood. Many Bridlewood homes also have a bonus room over the garage, which brings its own crack at the ceiling line and some questions about noise. Written quote first, texture matched to the existing knockdown, dust kept out of the rest of the house.
What We Tend to Find in Bridlewood Homes
Bridlewood homes are consistent in age and construction, which means consistent drywall issues. Here is what we see.
- Unfinished basements. A large number of Bridlewood homes were sold with bare lower levels. Many are still that way. Developing one is our most common job here, and it always starts with a moisture check of the slab and foundation walls.
- Knockdown ceilings everywhere. Builders of this era sprayed knockdown on nearly every ceiling. Any repair has to be textured to match, which takes test patches to get the splatter size and knockdown timing right.
- Truss uplift cracks. The crack along the top of the wall where it meets the ceiling, worst in January, better in July. Floating the joint is the real fix.
- Nail pops and corner-bead cracks. Less active than in brand-new homes, but Calgary's dry winters and Chinook swings keep producing a few each year.
- Water damage. Ice dams, hail-damaged roofs, upstairs tub overflows and dishwasher leaks. Stained or soft board needs to come out, dry out, and be replaced, not painted over.
- Bi-level ceiling and stair walls. Tall stairwell walls and the split ceiling line in bi-levels are prone to cracks and are awkward to reach without proper setup.
Two Bridlewood-specific notes. Lots here are modest, so many basements are developed to add family living space rather than a rental suite, and owners often want a flat ceiling that matches the main floor rather than another knockdown. Both are fine; the quote spells out which one you are getting. And the bi-levels in this community have lower-level exterior walls that sit partly below grade, so we meter those walls before boarding and tell you if anything is damp.

We bring every service to Bridlewood. These are the most relevant pages:
Basement Drywall is our main Bridlewood service. We board, tape and finish full developments with mould-resistant board where it helps and 5/8" Type X around the mechanical room. If you are planning a rental suite, Legal Suite Drywall covers the fire separation the City of Calgary inspector checks.
Drywall Repair covers nail pops, cracks, holes and dents. Water Damage Drywall Repair handles stained and soft ceilings, and Texture Matching makes sure the repaired section blends into the builder's knockdown.
Ceiling Repair fixes truss uplift cracks, sag and stairwell ceiling joints.
Drywall Installation and Garage Drywall cover new walls for renovations and boarding the attached garage with fire-rated board on the house side.
Drywall Finishing upgrades builder walls to Level 5 when you are repainting in dark colours or adding pot lights.
Send photos if you are not sure which service fits. We will tell you what we would do and quote only that.
We also serve Evergreen to the north and Shawnessy to the east. The full list is on our SW Calgary page.
How a Bridlewood Drywall Job Goes
Repairs are the most frequent Bridlewood call, so here is how a typical repair visit goes.
- Photos and a quote. Send pictures of the damage. For most repairs we can give you a written, itemized quote from the photos. Bigger jobs get a site visit.
- Booking. Most jobs are booked within 2 to 3 days.
- Protection. Plastic on the floor, furniture covered, zip wall across the doorway if we are sanding, HEPA vac on the sander.
- Repair. Nail pops get a new screw and three coats. Cracks get cut back, re-taped and floated. Water-damaged board gets cut out, the cavity checked for moisture, and new board set in.
- Texture match. We spray test patches on a sample board, compare to your ceiling, and adjust until it blends. Then we texture the repair.
- Prime-ready walkthrough. We check it under raking light, clean up, and leave it ready for paint and covered by a written workmanship warranty.
Basements follow the same pattern with a site visit and moisture check up front. A typical Bridlewood basement takes about a week for the drywall portion, from boarding to a sanded, prime-ready finish.
Why Bridlewood Homeowners Call Calgary Drywall Doctor
We have worked across Calgary since 2004, with 500+ projects completed and a lot of them in the south-west communities built in the late 1990s and 2000s. We know the knockdown textures these builders used and how to match them. We are licensed, WCB-covered and insured. Every job gets a free, written, itemized quote before any work starts. Dust stays contained, the finish gets checked under raking light, and the work is backed by a written workmanship warranty. For a Bridlewood basement, repair or ceiling fix, call 587-417-5252.
We keep the job easy to live with. Set hours, a clean truck, deliveries planned so we are not blocking the street, and the work area sealed off so the kids can still use the kitchen. Most repairs are done in one to three visits depending on drying time. If a painter is following us, we coordinate the handoff and leave a prime-ready surface on the day we promised.
