Calgary Drywall Doctor is a drywall contractor serving Willow Park in SE Calgary. Willow Park was built mostly in the 1960s and 1970s around the golf course, and it has stayed one of the more sought-after older communities in the southeast. The houses are bungalows, split-levels and two-storeys, many of them larger than the usual 1960s build, and a lot of them are being renovated hard right now: opened-up main floors, smooth ceilings, new basements and the occasional addition. That renovation work is most of what we do here, along with the usual repairs an older home needs. We are licensed, WCB-covered and insured. Call 587-417-5252 for a free written quote.
What We Tend to Find in Willow Park Homes
Willow Park homes were built with drywall, usually 1/2-inch board, a Level 3 finish and a sprayed stipple ceiling. Many have had at least one renovation since, so we often find 1980s or 1990s work layered on the original, and sometimes a 2000s kitchen as well.
What we see most:
- Stipple ceilings being removed. Smooth ceilings are the standard in a renovated Willow Park home. Original textures from the 1960s and 1970s may contain asbestos and need a lab test first. If positive, a licensed abatement contractor removes the texture before we skim and finish.
- Main-floor openings. Taking out the wall between the kitchen and the living room or family room is the most common renovation here. We board the new beam and columns, float the joints into the old ceiling and finish to Level 5 so the change disappears.
- Basement redos. Willow Park basements were finished in the 1970s and 1980s with panelling and drop ceilings. Owners want drywall ceilings, proper bedrooms and a bathroom. We strip, moisture-check and reboard.
- Poly-B and other plumbing work. Some Willow Park homes were re-plumbed during the Poly-B years of roughly 1978 to 1995. When a plumber replaces it, we patch and texture the access holes. Bathroom renovations also leave a lot of patching in the rooms beside and below them.
- Old patches and seasonal cracks. The framing settled decades ago. What we fix now is truss uplift at the ceiling line and old repairs that were done with one coat of mud and no sanding.
Lots near the golf course and the lower streets can carry more groundwater. Every basement gets a moisture check before we board it.
Willow Park also has a run of larger two-storeys and some estate-style homes near the golf course with formal living rooms, long hallways and high entries. Those long walls and open stairwells show finish flaws badly once the walls go smooth and the paint goes dark. They need a Level 5 finish and a careful raking-light check before paint.
Drywall Services in Willow Park
Here is what we bring to Willow Park:
- Drywall Installation for renovations and additions, with Renovation Drywall for opened-up floor plans and Drywall Taping & Mudding when your contractor has hung the board and needs a finisher.
- Ceiling Repair, including Popcorn Ceiling Removal after testing and any required abatement.
- Drywall Finishing, including a Level 5 Drywall Finish for smooth ceilings, feature walls and the dark paint colours a lot of Willow Park renovations use.
- Basement Drywall for full strip-and-reboard jobs, with mould-resistant board on the exterior walls.
- Drywall Repair for cracks, old patches, holes and Poly-B access openings.
Renovations in Willow Park are usually run by a general contractor. We work as their drywall trade, coming in after framing, electrical and insulation inspections and handing back paint-ready walls on their schedule.
Garage and addition work also comes up in Willow Park. A new attached garage or an addition over one needs 5/8-inch Type X board on the walls and ceiling between the garage and the house, and we do that as part of the installation.
How a Willow Park Drywall Job Goes
- Site visit and quote. We look at the scope, flag pre-1990 texture for a lab test, meter the basement for moisture, and send a written itemized quote.
- Testing and abatement, if needed. You test the ceiling. If asbestos is found, a licensed abatement contractor removes it. We start after clearance.
- Booking. Most jobs are booked within 2β3 days of approval. Renovation work is scheduled with your contractor.
- Protection. Willow Park homes often have hardwood, original trim and finished rooms next to the work. We cover everything, build zip walls and run a HEPA vacuum while sanding.
- Board, tape, skim, finish. New board gets three coats of mud. Scraped ceilings get a skim and a Level 5 finish. Old-to-new joints are floated wide so they do not telegraph through paint.
- Raking-light inspection. Smooth ceilings and dark walls show everything. We check under a low-angle light before we leave.
If you are doing a whole-house renovation, ask us to walk through it with your contractor before framing is closed in. Catching a wavy stud or an out-of-plane ceiling joist at that stage is far easier than trying to hide it with mud later.
Why Willow Park Homeowners Call Calgary Drywall Doctor
We have worked in Calgary since 2004 and have completed 500+ projects, many in older communities like Willow Park. Owners here call us because we deliver the smooth, Level 5 finish a renovation needs, we protect the original finishes, and every job carries a written workmanship warranty.
Willow Park owners tend to ask for references from other renovations in the community, and we are glad to give them. Owners here talk to each other, and a drywall finish that looks wrong under a dark paint colour is not something you can hide.
